Bell, Jonathan (1857-1903)

Family

Jonathan was born on 13 September 1857 at Clifton, Brighouse, Yorkshire, to parents Benjamin, a cane maker, and Harriett. He was baptised on 10 April 1859 at St Martin, Brighouse.

Before entering the ministry he was a silk dresser (1871).

The family emigrated to USA in 1897 and in 1910 were living at Jefferson, Kentucky. Jonathan became a Baptist minister.

Jonathan married Mary Ann Pease (1857-1920) in the summer of 1881 at Halifax, Yorkshire. Census returns identify  seven children.

  • John Henry Rushworth (1882-1965) – an office clerk (1900)
  • Charles Cecil (1884-1974) – a book-keeper (1920)
  • William Arnold (1888-1952) – a carpenter (1920)
  • James Ewart (1890-1975) – a baptist minister (1917)
  • Hubert Reginald (b1892) – a tile hand (1917)
  • Florence Gertrude (1894-1980) – a chiropodist; married Wallace M Coulson, a dentist
  • Arthur Clarence (1899-1918)
